Firmware Update for OM-1 (1.7) and OM-1 Mark II (1.2) released

Firmware Update for OM-1 (1.7) and OM-1 Mark II (1.2) released

Shortly after the release of the OM SYSTEM OM-1 Mark II, there has been some discussion about a possible firmware update for its predecessor, the OM-1.

Due to increased internal memory and new optimized memory controls, it was not possible to equip the OM-1 with the desired new features like Live-GND and additional subject detection patterns.

However, OM promised to update the firmware with a focus on the autofocus.

Today, OM SYSTEM has released the promised OM-1 firmware update and added a minor one for the OM-1 Mark II as well.

Firmware Update 1.7 for OM SYSTEM OM-1

Autofocus (S-AF and C-AF)

Better autofocus (AF) performance for both single S-AF and continuous focus C-AF in all target mode

To improve capturing the main subject, the update prioritizes the image center and gives more control, especially when there are several potential targets on the screen.

The AI subject detection is not affected by that.

High-Res Shot

The Compositing algorithm for handheld/tripod High-res shot has been improved.
As this was also part of the OM-1 II update, we can assume, that the feature works at the same level in both camera bodies.

Trash button for menu

Identically to the function in the successor model, the Trash button of the OM-1 now can also be programmed to work as menu button.

This may seem as a random feature, but it is particulary helpful if you are aiming for a 100% one-handed setup/operation.

Improved stability for various functions and features

No additional info are known on these improvements, but I assume that some re-programming might have resulted in a better or more stable code and hence algorithms for the computational photography features.

Firmware Update 1.2 for OM SYSTEM OM-1 Mark II

Compared to the update for its predecessor, the firmware update for the OM-1 Mark II is smaller and lists these 2 changes:

High-Res Shot Improvement and Improved stability for various functions and features (see OM-1 section).

How to download the firmware and update your OM SYSTEM camera

The OM-1 and OM-1 Mark II can be easily updated with the new firmwares 1.7 and 1.2 via the the OI.Share App or OM Workspace.

You can find detailed instructions on how to do that in here (in english) and here (in german).
